Have you been longing to get back to the good old days of NES fun? Maybe you want to pick up a Gamecube or Nintendo 64 to relive your gaming days growing up? We recently discovered a site that can help feed your retro gaming addiction and even help you find affordable used games for the newest video game consoles. Today we review: JJgames.com.
Let’s start with the look and basic layout of the site. We absolutely love the clean and simplistic design. The white background and contrasting light blue borders really keep things clean and easy on the eyes. The “shop by system” list-style menu on the left makes finding what you are looking for an absolute breeze. The classic blue hypertext content links throughout help you find featured products and other products of interest very quickly. We also really like the “Top Selling Video Games” and “Cheap Video Games” lists on the right side of the page. All in all, we really dig the layout and ease of use of this site. The search function works well and everything is very easy to find.
Although none of you probably care, we also wanted to give a big thumbs up to whoever designed the cool JJGames.com logo. The NES style controller and the red rectangle with rounded corners pay subtle tribute to the NES and points out this site offers some old school gaming goodness.
Now let’s get down to what you really care about . . . the video games!
JJGames sells video game consoles, games, and accessories for the following video game systems:
* Gameboy Color
* Gamecube
* NES
* Nintendo 64
* Nintendo DS
* Playstation
* Playstation 2
* Playstation 3
* Sega Dreamcast
* Sega Genesis
* Super Nintendo
* Wii
* Xbox
* Xbox 360
They offer a wide variety of games and most of them are at very affordable prices. In fact, the “Cheap Video Games” section we mentioned earlier consists of many great retro video games priced at less than a dollar!! We could go on all day but I can already feel and see your little gamer eyes glazing over. So I’ll wrap this up with a summary of what’s hot and what’s not.
What’s HOT:
– Awesome amount of retro video game systems and hundreds of preowned video games!
– Great Prices on games (Many games under a buck!)
– Low shipping prices based on weight of your total shipment. JJGames is also currently offering FREE shipping for orders over $50!
– Clean and simple design of the site makes it easy to use
– Clear shipping policies available on their site
– Sell your old game systems and games
– Easy to locate customer service contact information
– Request an email notification when a desired “out of stock” product is available again
– Easily check your order status
What’s MEH:
I always hate this part, but in the interest of fairness I try to find something negative about any video game site, product, or service we review. With that in mind, on with the negativity!
– While the site offers great prices on used retro video games, the prices for some of the used game consoles and systems themselves are a tad high.This is strictly based on my personal experience with local shops here in the Midwest, USA. In fact, I can’t apply this as a generalization to all of their systems. While I can buy a used original Xbox or Gameboy Advance cheaper here in local shops, I can’t buy a preowned Nintendo DS Lite cheaper without buying from a private party.
– There are no pictures of any of the actual preowned games so you are left to imagine what a description of something like “some writing on game” might mean. That being said, I know posting a image of every unique product is just not feasible.
– If you want to sell a game system or games you can only sell it as a “package” with the system and at least 10 games.
-Many items we searched for were listed as “out of stock”. I guess I have to hold off on getting that NES PowerGlove I never got as a kid! Of course we realize their previously owned inventory turns over on a daily basis which makes this less of an issue.
-What…No Atari 2600? While we LOVE and own all of the game systems on this site, we’d love to see a retro video game site offer some even older gaming systems.
Final Verdict:
Overall this is a killer website offering a great selection of retro video games and video game systems at great prices. We had to work hard to find something negative to say about this site.
Our humble and worthless opinion left us rating this site a 4 out of 5 stars.
